This release improves the look and feel of aphpkb, especially for the kb admin interface
I am very pleased to let everyone know that the Author Authentication is now working, this was caused by a change in the Password function which changed the size of the hash - the Passwd field in the akb.sql has now been updated accordingly. A minor change in the header.html file now removes the error from the script that was removed in the previous version.

HTML Editor Integration
Instead of trying to re-invent the HTML editor wheel I have chosen the best tool for the job. From my research I have found the very best cross-browser HTML editor: Whizzywig

New Version .45
I'm a little excited about this one, as well as the usual fix-it jobs with this release, this also includes, fixes for the Sub-Categories.
Now when a user clicks on a category, if there are sub-categories, the articles per subcategory are counted.
A link back to the parent category is also included.
I have been evaluating PHP Designer 2005 - so far I have been impressed with the interface and colouring. It has also helped enormously with keeping track of my changes so I know what to put in the changelog - I have recently updated my development server to Ubuntu 5 so I will also be evaluting some IDEs and Text Editors for Linux as well.

New Version .44 with Sub-Categories
I'm a little excited about this one, as well as the usual fix-it jobs with this release, this also includes, Sub-Categories.
When a user clicks on a Category, if there are any sub-categories, they get linked before the articles.
I also fixed a problem with the comments not being able to be submitted, this was due to over-zealous scrapping of the existing JavaScript code to validate the comments form.

When it ain't broke - don't fix it
Learned this the hard way, I "fixed" the user table in 0.4 and in the process broke the authentication for the kb admin.
I fixed the user table ( 4.1 ) - not a problem, except for the example data for the admin user was also "fixed" - just not in a good way
Finally, after going through a non-released development version ( 0.42 ) - we arrive at 0.43 - Yay, it looks like it will work afterall.
Lesson learnt - I've been looking at the chmod command to lock myself out of aphpkb while I'm developing - so far so good :)

Same Bug new Version
We've been having all sorts of troubles with our db of late - namely the user table which was accidently edited and released with the new versions.
Please be patient with us as we find a clue to the problem ( hopefully without having to re-write the authentication ).
The easiest, but least popular fix is to comment out most of the code in /path-to-aphpkb/docs/auth.php - although I would not recommend this in a production setting.

Bug Announcement
The aphpkb-0.4 release had a truncated User table in the abk.sql file.
This is what the table should look like:

aphpkb version 4.0 has just been released, please view the changelog here and Download here
This release includes changes to the formatting in the html template from table-based to CSS. This is a significant change in aphpkb which should allow downstream developers to more easily modify the look and feel of aphpkb
Version 4 also includes limited email integration for the Question and Answer functions, this is commented out by default. It should not be too difficult to modify the answer.php script to enable.
I would like to thank everyone who helped me with this last release, I look forward to implementing new ideas with our Knowledgebase Project
